Mustola timber

Since 1999, constantly evolving

Mustola Timber Oy was founded in 1999 by Martti and Marja Taimela in the port area of Mustola.

In 2015, Raine Koskinen, who worked at the sawmill, bought the company, after which Conrastock Oy and Szepaniak Oy joined the firm. Today, Koskinen is the company's CEO and chairman of the board.

When planning the purchase, Koskinen drew up an investment plan that was intended to catch up on the company's investment debt and improve production efficiency at the same time.

The first change was a heating plant built in 2016 and two drying chambers.

In 2018, Mustola Timber was the first sawmill to use Finnos Oy's Fusion log scanner, which combines advanced laser and X-ray scanning technologies. It improved the quality of the products and made the use of raw materials more efficient.

In the same year, the company built more drying capacity.

In 2019, the Optimizer x-ray system supplied by Finnos was put into use for log turning.

In July 2021, an equipment failure occurred at the sawmill, which caused a large fire at the rear end of the sawmill. Nothing could be done to save the more than 1,000 square meter hall. It was completely destroyed.

A couple of days after the fire the owners decided to rebuild the facility. During planning and construction sawing continued every other week in Kouvola, which enabled partial deliveries of lumber to the main market areas. The staff was not laid off during the reconstruction and everyone stayed on the company's payroll.

The first products from the new plant were released at the end of August 2022, i.e. about a year after the accident, and production has been ramping up during 2023.

The company has 12 employees. Most of them have been with the company since the beginning of the 2000s.
